Welcome to Driven 2 Drive, an independent driving school offering Driving lessons in Peacehaven and also covering between Brighton and Seaford. I'm John Whitney, the owner, and I've been an Approved Driving Instructor since 2004 and helped hundreds of people pass their driving test over the years. More recently, I've been providing training for the Hackney Carriage Taxi licence and advancing myself into driver coaching techniques.

My driving school car is a new Mini Cooper diesel which is fitted with duel controls and all the modern safety aids which means my lessons are conducted in a professional, calm and enjoyable environment. I'm available to discuss your tuition needs at any time - please feel free to get in touch on my mobile 07812 124144.

When I ask my pupils what's the most important factors for them in learning how to drive, they all say a number of different things.
Whether it's passing as quickly as possible or knowing they are driving 'the right way', I know that no two pupils are the same; so I work on giving them the confidence to drive in a way that works for them, on an individual basis.
And making sure the costs of learning to drive are kept to a minimum.
I work with drivers of all abilities and learning styles using multiple technics to thoroughly cover all aspects of learning to drive, and specialise in teaching people with dyslexia or those who struggle with traditional learning methods.
Driving laws restrict learner drivers from using motorways, so once you've passed your test, you might want to consider some additional motorway training to build your confidence.
I offer Motorway Lessons over a 3 hour period which will take you on the M23 & M25 to help you gain that extra experience and confidence that you need.
When joining from a slip road or acceleration lane you'll learn how to use good observations to assess the traffic when emerging, and looking well ahead for signs when leaving the motorway.
I find that there are many reasons for qualified drivers to take refresher lessons such as changing back to a manual car after driving an automatic for many years, or if you've not driven since you passed the test.
Sometimes there is a loss of confidence after an accident.
Whatever the reason, I tailor all refresher lessons to the individuals needs using my car or theirs if they prefer.
We'll start with an initial one hour lesson, for me to assess your driving and discuss your goals or concerns.
For those looking to become a professional taxi driver, you will need to take the Hackney Carriage Assessment.
The Hackney Carriage Assessment is designed to check whether your driving skills are to a professional standard including modern driving practices all to help improve road safety and set an example to other road users by driving with courtesy and consideration.
The assessment lasts for about 38-40 minutes taking in a variety of road conditions, same as the learner test but to much higher level.
Only the questions in bold print must be used on Black Cab style taxi tests. Example questions:Q.
What are the correct tyre pressures for the cab you are now with? A.
See taxi specifications at the bottomQ.
Whilst driving a taxicab, how would you know if the rear automatic door locking system became inoperative?
A. The warning light.
Open the bonnet, identify where you would check the engine oil level and tell me how you would check that the engine has sufficient oil.
Identify dipstick/oil level indicator, describe checking of oil level against the minimum/maximum markers.
