The theory test is made up of a multiple choice part and a hazard perception part.
You need to pass both parts to pass it.
Once you have passed the theory test you can then apply to take your practical driving test.
The multiple choice part is delivered using a touch screen computer and the hazard perception part records your responses through the use of a computer mouse button.
If you pass one part and fail the other you'll fail the whole test, and you'll need to take both parts again.
The questions in each multiple choice test vary according to the category of vehicle you're hoping to obtain a licence for eg a motorcycle theory test will contain specific questions that don't appear in any other test.
Pass Plus is an established training course aimed at new drivers.
It was designed by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) with the help of insurers and the driving instruction industry.
Statistics show that new drivers are more likely to have an accident in the first two years after passing their test, due to lack of driving experience.
Pass Plus builds on your skills and knowledge.
It will teach you how to anticipate, plan for and deal with all kinds of hazards, to help you become a more confident driver.
It is not compulsory to be given tuition to drive on a motorway or dual carriageway when you have passed your driving test.
However circumstances may change throughout your life and you may have to start using the motorway.
A change in job, commuting to the shops and visiting friends and family may need you to use the motorway networks.
Motorways are often very busy and are frequented by Heavy Goods Vehicles and sales reps!
The traffic moves at significantly faster speeds than new drivers are used to.
Confidence is a big part of driving!
Sometimes personal circumstances may change and there may be times after you have passed your test that you don't drive.
Things like motoring affordability, being able to buy and insure a car etc. Driving bans or points on your licence can prevent you from driving for a certain periods.
Or, it may be that you don't need a car for your job.
If it's easier to use public transport and so you don't drive on a regular basis.
Driving is like any other skill that we learn, in that if it's not used on a regular basis you become rusty.
The DSA Show me, tell me questions test your knowledge on basic car maintenance and safety.
At the start of the practical driving test the show me, tell me questions will begin.
The driving test examiner will ask you two questions, one show me question and one tell me question.
Answer any of these two questions incorrectly and you will gain one driving test fault.
There are 19 different questions, which can be asked, in 18 different combinations.
Below you will find all the show me, tell me questions and answers.
