At the beginning of a practical driving test, your examiner will ask you some questions relating to car safety.
The purpose of the questions is to test your knowledge of various maintenance checks that a driver should make on a regular basis.
You will be asked two questions.
If you answer either or both questions incorrectly, then your examiner will mark a minor fault on their Driving Test Report form.
You will be asked one Show Me and one Tell Me from the list below.
The Practical Test is designed to test your knowledge of the highway code, ensuring you give a good, confident & safe drive.
As well as the eyesight test your examiner will also ask you some vehicle safety questions.
Eyesight Requirements: To start with you'll be asked to read a number plate on a stationary vehicle from 20 metres away.
If you read the number plate then the test will continue.
If you need glasses or contact lenses, wear them.
If you remove them, lose them, break them or bring the wrong pair/set to the test.
Taking your theory test The theory test is made up of 2 parts.
Part 1 is multiple choice and part 2 is a hazard perception.
You must pass both parts to successfully complete the theory test.
You cannot apply to take your practical driving test until you have completed your theory test.
The multiple choice part is carried out using a touch screen computer and the hazard perception part records your responses through the use of a computer mouse button.
Part one - multiple choice.
At the start of your test you'll be given instructions on how the test works.
This manoeuvre is usually recognised as the '3 point turn' however this can be missleading because you can perform this manoeuvre in 3, 5 or 7 turns!
It all depends on the width of the road.
Control of the vehicle is a big factor in this manoeuvre and really helps with clutch control.
Observations - you are aware of all other road users.
Accuracy - you cannot touch the kerb or swing out too far from the kerb.
Your driving instructor at McNics Driving School will guide you through the step by step routine which you are required to use in this manoeuvre.
