Hall Driving School is based in Scarborough but also covers Burniston, Cayton, Cloughton, Crossgates, Eastfield, Newby, Scalby and Seamer. Our aim is to make each lesson as enjoyable & educational as possible, whilst sticking to the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency syllabus AND providing value for money. All lessons are on a 'one to one' basis. We passed our driving tests (car & motorbike), first time, many years ago.

Standards have improved since then and these days, passing your test and every day driving is much more of a challenge than it used to be, but don't let that put you off! Because we are up-to-date with all the recent rules, regulations and teaching methods, you should feel safe knowing that you are being taught by a D.V.S.A. Approved Driving Instructor (A.D.I.).

As official A.D.I.'s, we have also been D.B.S. checked (Disclosure & Barring Service) and have regular checks to ensure that our teaching reaches a very high standard. Whether you are 17 or 70, you will find us patient, friendly, kind and reliable.

How many lessons will you need is an impossible question for any driving instructor to answer as everyone learns at different rates - it's a bit like asking a Doctor how long will it be before a new born baby starts to walk & talk?! Some people have a natural aptitude - others take longer.
What is certain is that longer, regular driving lessons result in learning to drive sooner than having just a one hour lesson per week, but of course that applies to learning any new skill.
The driving lesson calculator on the left below is one of many available on the Internet and is based on DVSA statistics of a learner having no previous experience or 'private practice' (i.e. with a Parent).
A review on our FACEBOOK and / or GOOGLE pages would also be greatly appreciated!
Lynne and Iain were great when I was learning to drive.
I wasn't very confident at all when I first started and felt so nervous in the drivers seat, but Lynne was so supportive and knew how to keep me calm whilst still making progress with my tuition.
I passed in September '13 with the rain pouring down, busy traffic AND the test centre manager sitting in on the test but because of Lynne and Iain I felt fully prepared.
The first thing we recommend you do, is to study and practice for your theory test.
Practising and testing your highway code knowledge and hazard perception skills is essential if you want to be a safe driver and pass your driving test.
You then need to apply for a provisional driving licence.
You can apply for the licence up to three months before your 17th birthday but you will still have to wait until your birthday before you can take your theory test.
To apply for your licence, you must complete application form D1, available to order on-line from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), or from the Post Office.
Some useful information from a former DVSA Examiner on what to expect on you driving test.
If you're under 25, car insurance can be prohibitive; even the average for 17-22 year olds is 2,250.
The Co-op's just launched a 'pay how you drive' policy, so we've sped up publishing our new hugely detailed, step-by-step Young Driver's Car Insurance guide.
Here's a brief summary.
DO reduce your risk with lower mileage and less powerful, unmodified cars.
DON'T put someone else as primary driver if it's your car - that's illegal.
PASS PLUS is a training scheme for new drivers.
It's much more than just a few extra lessons.
This specially designed course by the Driving Standards Agency (DVSA), with the help of insurers and the driving instruction industry, helps you.
You should check which insurance companies offer the best discount for your particular requirements but you may even find that you recover the cost of your training and more!.
PASS PLUS consists of six practical modules which cover driving in town, in all weathers, on rural roads, at night, on dual carriageways and on motorways.
