The theory test was introduced by the DVSA in 1996,i t's aim is to improve the safety of newly qualified drivers by making them think carefully about the right attitudes needed to drive safely on today's busy roads and reduce the risk of accidents.
The test is taken on a computer at one of the local DVSA centres.

The theory test consists of 50 multiple choice questions, a minimum of 43 is required to pass and is only available in English.
